12 Must-Have Tennis Bag Essentials
While everyone has their own set of individual needs on and off the court, we have put together a list of the absolute must-have items which should always be in your tennis bag. These few things could mean the difference between winning and losing your next match!
This may seem like a no-brainer, but you should always have a spare racquet or two on hand just in case something happens to your preferred racquet of choice. The racquet could slip out of your hand and crack, or you could break a string.
- Tennis Balls
Don’t be the guy who never brings balls to the court! Make sure you always have a good couple of tennis balls in your bag as they are great for warming up ahead of tournaments.
- Water and Sports Drinks
It’s easy to get dehydrated if you’re not careful and it’s imperative that you have enough water to get you through a match, and a sports drink for replacing electrolytes post-match. Even mild dehydration will affect your energy levels and concentration.
Skin damaged caused by the sun affects many tennis players and it’s important to lather up on sunscreen before hitting the court. There are plenty of sunscreens which are sweat and water-resistant so you can ensure great coverage no matter how active you are.
- Hat or Visor
If you find yourself playing in the middle of a real scorcher, having your head and face exposed to the sun for the duration of a tennis match can greatly increase your chances of dehydration and even sunstroke. If there something that playing tennis causes, its sweat! You are going to be a lot more comfortable if you have a towel to mop down your face as opposed to your forearm or even t-shirt, so be sure to carry a sweat towel with you at all times.

- Extra Overgrips

If you’re a fan of using vibration dampeners, it’s a good idea to have a few extra in your bag as they can come off fairly easily especially if you make off-centre contact.
- Extra Clothes
You don’t want to have to sit courtside in the same sweaty gear after your match is complete so be sure to bring a spare set of clothes, underwear, socks, and comfortable off-court shoes as well.
- Warm-Up Equipment
You don’t want to step onto the court with cold muscles as this can quickly lead to injury. A skipping rope is great for warming up your leg muscles, while a resistance band is perfect for arm and shoulder warm-ups.
- Ice Pack
Immediately icing down sore, aching muscles and joints after a match can greatly hasten your post-match recovery and can also prevent small injuries from becoming larger.
